What are the costs?

Tuition costs are standard UM tuition and if you have financial aid, it applies. The program fee is $5,200.  Total costs for the semester are comparable to UM room, board and semester living costs; it covers housing, 12 meals a week, hotels, flights between Quito and San Cristobal and excursion costs that are required for classes.  The most recent budget sheet for costs is here.

What is covered by the $5,200 Program Fee?

  • housing on the mainland and in the Galapagos
  • 12 meals a week
  • airport/ferry transfers between Quito and San Cristobal, and between islands
  • costs of excursions that are required for class 

What are my expected costs?

  • International airfare, direct, round trip flight to Quito, estimated $1,200
  • Visa (currently $415)
  • Lunches and some dinners
  • Textbooks
  • Personal items (digital camera and laptop are essential; binoculars are useful)

Will my scholarships apply?
Yes.  If you are a UM student, your UM scholarships, fellowships and aid will apply.

Are there grants available to cover some of the costs?
For all qualified applicants, there is  limited financial aid  Study Abroad: Financial Aid and a few scholarships Study Abroad: Scholarships.
